Stereotypes associated with the Nordic countries are laughed at on social media – this is how they joke about Finns in Norway and Denmark

The flags of the Nordic countries fly in the halls.
According to the researcher, the humor of the Nordic countries is very similar.

Nordics have always joked at each other’s expense, but in the age of social media it has a whole new platform.

\”Being Norwegian is just like being Finnish, but without the booze.\”

In the background of the video, a man in a blue suit with skis is running around.

The jokes focus on the Nordic countries, but there are also mentions of places like Spain, Italy and the Netherlands.

Finns are especially delighted by Killjoy’s video entitled Finland loves free buckets, in which they laugh at Finns’ eager queuing for free buckets.

Killjoy has different concepts for his skits. One is the \”Nordic lesson\ where characters from different countries in the video tell how to say a certain word in their language. The characters also appear in other videos and have certain recognizable traits. The Finn often appears as a stiff and reserved character who does not show much happy emotions.

A good example of this is the video requested from Killjoy, in which she reveals to different Nordic countries that she is pregnant.

\”I can’t wait for Finland’s reaction,\” one commenter writes.

He probably wasn’t disappointed: while the other Nordic countries reacted with big gestures of confusion, Finland’s character cursed with little gestures.

The mutual humor of the Nordic countries seems to have made a new arrival in the age of social media, but it is not new. Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian jokes have been told for decades.

– Stories are always told about neighboring countries and peoples, the truth of which is not necessarily known, but it sounds funny. It’s the same everywhere. Stereotypes are heard by everyone since childhood, and they are part of the folklore of each country.

According to Kerkkänen, the oldest meaning of jokes is to entertain, but at the same time it also increases the feeling of togetherness. According to him, the mutual humor of the Nordics is explained by the simple fact that we laugh at the same things.

– In general, the humor of the Nordic countries is very similar, if you compare it to what it is like with the English or the French, for example. However, our mutual humor is quite good-natured. People who are further away are more likely to make harsher jokes.
