Lieksa gives up funding for VisitKarelia in favour of Koli

Koli's new hotel under construction
A new hotel will be completed in the village of Koli next summer. The hotel will be built by the North Karelia Cooperative.

In the future, Lieksa will direct its annual marketing contribution of around EUR 50 000 to Koli Tourism. The city is the largest owner of Koli Tourism.

The city of Lieksha transfers the marketing euros directly to Koli.

Lieksa owns around 10% of the shares in VisitKarelia, a joint municipal tourism company. Like other municipalities in North Karelia, the city has financed the activities of VisitKarelia, formerly Karelia Expert, on an annual basis.

However, Lieksa is not happy with the visibility that the county’s most famous tourist destination, Koli, has received through the provincial company.

That’s why Lieksa will direct its annual marketing contribution, i.e. around 50,000 euros, to Kolin Matkailu. The city is the largest owner of Kolin Matkailu.

Kolin Matkailu can, if it wishes, participate in VisitKarelia’s joint marketing if it benefits Kolin.

The Lieksa city government decided on the marketing change on Monday.
