The Rye Centre decided to invest heavily, despite the volatile times. Ruka believes that the end of spring will be excellent for tourism.
The Rye Centre launches massive investments on the slopes of Eastern Ruka. Among other things, Finland’s first eight-seater chairlift will be built on the slope, which will pull up to 4 000 people per hour up the slope.
– However, the spring is looking record-breaking and the EU support we received ensured that investments were made despite the global situation.
Rye Centre is building four new slopes alongside the Masto slopes in eastern Ruka. The new slopes will improve access to the Vuossel and Kelo ski areas, and the Tykky Valley will be built in the area.
The total price of Ruka’s investments is around 14 million euros.
After Corona, many other ski centers have dared to renew or expand their operations. In addition to Ruka, for example Levi has talked about large investments.
More space for family campers
Ville Aho says that the goal of Rukakeskus is still to be an attractive family holiday destination.
– The popularity of Vuossel’s slopes among families creates congestion there from time to time, which is why we want to direct customers in the direction of Masto with the help of new investments, Ville Aho says.
A fully automatic snowmaking system with 40 snow cannons will be built on the slopes of Pessari and Masto in Itä-Ruka. The Ruka ski center already has snowmaking equipment the size of about a hundred snow cannons. Due to the investment, the snowmaking capacity will increase by almost one and a half times.
Rukakeskus Oy has received EU investment support for the World’s best for families and the environment project, which includes Masto’s new slopes and lift, the implementation of an energy-efficient automatic snowmaking system, LED lighting of the new slopes and the expansion of the caravan area to 40 places.
– I believe that our investments also create faith in other Ruka entrepreneurs to boldly develop their services. In particular, we warmly welcome new hotel projects in the area, Aho states.
