The heat recovery system at the Ali-Juhakkala wastewater treatment plant was commissioned early this year.
In Lahti, district heating from wastewater has been started. Lahti Aqua and Lahti Energia’s heat recovery system was completed at the Ali-Juhakkala wastewater treatment plant at the turn of the year and is currently being tested.
The heat from the treated wastewater is recovered for district heating, which is further heated in the biogas plant at the water intake before being transferred to the district heating network.
It was estimated beforehand that the amount of heat produced by the plant would be equivalent to the annual energy demand of a thousand private homes. According to Lahti Energia, the targets appear to have been slightly exceeded.
