The museum is currently fine-tuning its timetable to accommodate two major projects, an extension and the renovation of the main building.

Construction of the extension to the National Museum, which stands on Mannerheimintie in Helsinki, is expected to start in autumn 2023.

The main building of the National Museum represents the national romanticism. The architectural competition for the extension was won in 2019 by the floating glass *Atlas* by JKMM Architects. The extension will be built mainly underground.

At the same time, the main building, completed in 1910, is renovated. The new and renovated premises should better serve museum enthusiasts, both locals and tourists visiting Helsinki.

The National Museum of Finland is a national museum of cultural history that presents the history of Finland with the help of object culture. The museum is part of the Museum Agency under the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Complaints procedures have been completed

The construction of the expansion part of the National Museum has been waiting for the zoning decision of the area, which has been appealed to several court levels. Now the Supreme Administrative Court has rejected the permission of those who appealed to the lower levels to appeal to the Supreme Court. The appeal process has thus come to an end and now the project is waiting for the final decision of Senaatti Kiinteistöje on construction.

If everything goes according to plan, the turmoil on the plot will start already in the summer.
