Lieksa strengthens its tourist attractions with new plans – for example, more hotels can be built in the future

There is a new hotel behind Kolin Sale.
The landscape of the village of Koli is already changing. A new hotel is being built next to Sale on the main road. The photo was taken in December 2022.

The new plans concern, for example, the village of Koli and the Ruunaa rapids area.

The Lieksa City Council has approved the zoning review and the new zoning plans are proceeding as planned. The focus is on developing tourism and housing in the Koli area. The aim is to make Koli an internationally renowned tourist area.

A new area of permanent housing is being developed in the village centre of Koli, where mainly terraced and detached houses can be built. The possibility of building detached houses is also being explored. The zoning plan will be discussed for the first time at the next meeting of the City Council in two weeks’ time.

In addition, a town plan has been drawn up from the village of Koli towards Purnulahti. The plan allows, among other things, the construction of a hotel in the area.

The goal is dense construction, so that you can walk to the services.

Pohjois Karjala Osuuskauppa is currently building a hotel in the village of Koli, which will open next summer at the new location. A heating plant is currently being built next to the station.

Also a hotel in Ruunaan Neitikoski?

Changes are also coming to the Ruuna area, another important tourist destination in Lieksa. Metsähallitus prepares a beach station plan for its land, the purpose of which is to determine what kind of nature tourism development can be implemented in the area. In Ruunaa Neitikoski, the aim is to build a denser structure that would support year-round tourism. It could be, for example, a hotel.

Ruunaa’s beach station plan can be seen on 20.1. until. The city of Lieksa hopes that it will be approved this spring.
