Pohjois Karjala Osuuskauppa invests 22 million euros in the renovation of the Bomba spa in Nurme.
PKO is building an extension to the spa hotel, which will include almost 100 new lake view rooms, a restaurant and meeting rooms. In addition, the rooms of Karjalaiskylä are being renovated.
The expansion plan was already announced in the fall of 2020. The construction of the expansion part was supposed to start in the spring of 2021, but the exemption granted to it was appealed to the administrative court. The project needed an exception permit, because the hotel will be five stories apart from the pattern of the area. The area is zoned for three-story buildings.
An appeal to the administrative court delayed the implementation of the project
Construction of the new hotel wing will begin in April at Bomba, and according to the preliminary schedule, they are supposed to be completed by the summer of 2024. The renovations to the rooms in Karjalaiskylä will be completed already this coming summer, Kivelä states.
