The composition competition takes place every five years. The first competition was held in 2003.
In spring 2024, the jury will select at least three, but no more than five works to be performed in the final phase of the Uuno Klami Composition Competition.
A record 283 compositions from 38 countries entered the previous competition in 2019.
Grand prize €11 000
The following prizes will be awarded: 1st prize €11 000, 2nd prize €9 000 and 3rd prize €7 000.
The competition is organized by the support association of the International Uuno Klami composition competition, whose members include Kymi Sinfonietta and the cities of Kotka and Kouvola.

Uuno Klami (1900–1961) was a composer born in Klamila, Virolahti, who studied composition in places such as Paris and Vienna. Klami received the title of academician in 1959.
