The recording studio, which operated in Kuopio for more than 40 years, recorded a significant amount of light music from Eastern Finland.
Mikko Tegelman, who is also the tour manager for Sonata Arctica and Turmion Midwives, says that the studio work doesn’t stop there.
– The idea is to build a control room in the yard of my home, where I can continue my mixing work. No retirement just yet.
Helsinki was haunted
Tegelman says that setting up his own studio in Kuopio was a really great idea, it made it possible to record countless basement bands and make master tapes in his own neighbourhood. The bands could then send them to record labels for a potential record deal.
Commercial music and heavy rock
– Over the course of three years, we made an insane amount of commercial music for radio stations. It took a lot of work.
– There is so much involved in making Tarot cards. That music, friendship and the whole youth. Those are great memories.
Master tapes from four decades
During the 42-year history, the studio’s warehouses have accumulated a considerable amount of original master tapes. After hearing about the closing of the studio, the musicians have gone in droves to collect theirs and at the same time say goodbye to the studio that was important to them.
– It has been such a good-natured hospice care. Only then did you realize how important this studio has been.
– This was a dream for years. I dug out the original multi-track tapes from that warehouse and re-mixed the whole album during the corona era. I’m really happy that I finally got it done. Now you can listen to it yourself.
The remixed album has not been released, at least not yet.
Next, Mikko Tegelman will travel with the Turmio Kätilöt orchestra via the Helsinki Ice Hall for a 7-week European tour. Last year, he did an equally long tour as Sonata Arctica’s mixer.
