The Loggia proposal wins the architectural competition for Oulu’s new museum and science centre building – one of the biggest cultural investments in the city’s history

The cost of the new Museum and Science Centre building is around €30 million.

The total cost of the project is estimated at €30 million, making it one of the largest cultural investments in the city’s history.

The new building will house the main part of the Museum and Science Centre’s staff, as well as the visitor attractions Tietomaa and the Museum of Northern Ostrobothnia. The building will be designed between 2022-2023 and built between 2024-2026, and will be completed in 2026, when Oulu is the European Capital of Culture.

The future exhibition and events centre will be a combination of a museum and science centre, with a wide range of events in different artistic disciplines. The centre aims to attract more than 200 000 visitors a year.

The protected main building of Tietomaa, which is part of the museum and science center’s visitor attractions, is being renovated and renovated. The newer Science Theater part related to the part to be renovated will be demolished. A larger new part will be built next to the protected building.
