Writer Hanif Kureishi fears he can no longer write – fell in Rome at Christmas

British author Hanif Kureishi is best known for his 1990 novel Suburban Buddha.

Award-winning British author Hanif Kureishi is still in hospital in Rome, unable to move.

Even before his best-selling novel, Kureishi gained fame for his screenplay for *The Boys’ Laundry*, which was nominated for an Oscar.

Kureishi has tweeted about his accident or illness in detail.

He says he felt dizzy and fell down. He woke up a while later in a pool of blood with a twisted neck. Luckily, his wife was there and called for help.

The author also says that he thought he was going to die and that he only had a few breaths left.

Kureishi himself seems to be afraid of his future. He believes he can’t write anymore.

Suburban Buddha was a phenomenon

Hanif Kureishi is known as an opinionated writer who deals especially with racial issues and often also sexuality.

Kureishi has written several novels, plays and screenplays.

Four of Hanif Kureish’s novels have been translated into Finnish. He is still actively writing, even though no translations have been published for more than ten years.
