Pori Jazz made a loss last summer – under new ownership, the future looks brighter
Last summer, Pori Jazz missed its audience target and losses reached up to 400 000 euros. This summer, the festival will be organised by a new backing company.
Last summer’s loss of audience at Pori Jazz resulted in losses of around €300 000-400 000 for Pori Jazz 66 ry, the organiser of the festival. The number of people who bought tickets for the main concerts was around 32 000.
However, Jolma does not want to give the exact amount of the loss.
The Board of Directors of the association has been granted a discharge for the past year. This was the last festival organised by the association, at least for the time being.
Last fall, the organization of the festival was transferred to the new Pori Jazz Festival Oy, the Satakunnan Osuuskauppa and the Korsi Foundation.
It acquired licensing rights for Pori Jazz’s name with a 6 4 year contract.
Positive expectations for the coming summer
In the future, the Pori Jazz 66 ry will receive licensing fees from the festival’s new background company and will change in the direction of traditional association activities.
– The association’s cash is positive and there is no creditor. We are going to fund income streams if, for example, organizing a festival for one reason or another, for one reason or another, is sometimes returned to the association, says Jolma, CEO.
Jolma says she is very pleased with the ticket sales of this summer event, which has been clearly brighter last year. This has been made easier by the fact that the festival was able to attach the artists they wanted in good time.
Jolma emphasizes that the new background company now, which is now responsible for the business, does not appear to the ordinary festival visitor in practice.
– The company’s board of directors does not intervene in the festival’s operational activities. However, for example, the government has pointed out that it is important that the free events of jazz will continue, says Sampsa Jolma, CEO.
However, some old jazz traditions will return to the festival milieu this year. Jazzkatu opens.
The main concerts of Pori Jazz will be held from 17th to 19th. July. The main performers include Sting, Roxette and Ultra Bra.
