Elsewhere in Finland, promising results have been obtained from the utilization of wood material in settling basins and ditches. Among other things, wood binds nutrients.
Vesijärvi Foundation collects Christmas trees to help water conservation.
In other parts of Finland, experiments have been carried out in which bundled tree trunks have been added to ditches and settling basins. Wood material has been found to bind nutrients and diversify micro-organisms.
The foundation plans to try using whole Christmas tree trunks in a few wetlands in the Vesijärvi catchment area, as long as the ice leaves.
The collection, which starts on Monday, January 9, is carried out in cooperation with Hollola municipality and Paimela village association.
More detailed information about the collection can be found, for example, on the website of Hollola municipality.
