Negotiations are still ongoing with the owner of the land located on the south shore of Umianlammi.

In the fall, the government’s budget scramble secured an investment authorization of 12.5 million euros for the Kutila canal project. The investment authorization means that the channel has known funding even after the change of government. The amount is spread over several years.
The long-thought-out Kutila canal would connect Pien- and Suur-Saima when completed.
The project has been justified in many ways, such as the improvement of business activity, tourism, water traffic and the state of the environment.
