In March 2024, a clear increase in cocaine ice was found in Rovaniemi wastewater. In November, the quantities had leveled off.

According to THL’s wastewater survey, drug use has decreased both in Kemi and Rovaniemi two years ago.

Kemi and Rovaniemi had no indication of the use of the alpha pvp, the so-called thumb, on THL wastewater survey.

The November measurement result released on Friday also reveals that the increase in cocaine use, which was observed in Rovaniemi a year ago in Rovaniemi, had leveled out.

According to Lapland police, the latest measurement reinforces the notion that the strong growth of wastewater cocaine residues in March last year has been influenced by the ongoing tourism season at the time of the research.

At that time, the drug situation in Rovaniemi was the worst of the waste water during the entire measurement history.

– Now it seems that the results have been influenced by those who have temporarily stayed in the city, Suokas says.

In Kemi’s use of drug use decreased

Suokas sees positive development in Lapland anyway. In Kemi, the use of cocaine and amphetamine had fallen from two years ago.

In the shorter term, between last March and November, there was a bit of rise, but Suokas considers the long -term comparison more descriptive.

In Kemi, he says drugs are made because of the proximity of the border, but the wastewater survey provides the police important information for the police.

– This is a good indicator because it tells about the use of drugs in the city.

In the whole country the use of drugs increased

According to a wastewater survey of the National Institute for Health and Welfare, total drug use has increased in the last two years, generally throughout the country. However, regional differences in drugs are large.

The wastewater survey reveals that the use of the thumb is clearly increased in the Helsinki metropolitan area and in southern and southwestern Finland.

THL is studying drug residues in the wastewater of Finnish cities every other year, when measurements are made twice a year. The latest measurements now published were made last November.

From Lapland, Rovaniemi and Kemi are involved in the screening of wastewater drug residue.
