Lappeenranta’s singing competitions were postponed by a year due to the corona pandemic. Now 22 singers will take the stage.
– It went quite well. These competition situations are always so pressurized that I am satisfied, Tähtinen says.
Actually, Tähtinen was supposed to sing in the Lappeenranta hall already a year ago. However, Lappeenranta’s 20th national song contest was postponed when the corona pandemic gripped Finland.
During the extra year, according to Tähtinen, he had time to develop as a singer, but on the other hand, he had to prepare for the competition again.
– The software had to warm up and tune itself to the state that the games are coming. From that point of view, it seems that it has been even more exciting this year, says Tähtinen.
The history of the Lappeenranta singing competitions for young singers stretches back to the 1960s. The competitions are known as a stepping stone to, for example, opera stages.
– The competition is of great importance to me and certainly to many others. However, this is the biggest national competition, says Tähtinen.
The heart of the singing competition is the audience’s support
Now, however, the song is playing – despite the fact that a few of the singers originally selected for the competition have had to cancel their participation either due to illness or a change in their work situation. A total of 22 singers will participate in the competition.
Vesaai is particularly pleased that the public has discovered the competition. For example, the final competition on Epiphany night on January 6 is sold out.
– The most important thing is the sense of community and the fact that each singer is encouraged for the best possible performance, Vesalainen describes.
