Mikkeli tourism operators regularly receive feedback on lack of signage.

The outdoor route designed by the City of Mikkeli for Astuvansalmi rock paintings will not be realized this summer.

The images in Mikkeli Ristina have been painted in Kallio about 4,000 to 2,200 years before the start of the era. They form the largest rock paintings in the Nordic countries.

The rock paintings have to hike about three kilometers along a narrow path.

The city has been planning to improve the route for years. The location of the path has been the subject of the dispute between the city and the landowners.

In 2022, the Government issued a forced reflection permit to the South Savo ELY Center for an area of \u200b\u200beight hectares, covering the rock painting field and ancient monument. A redemption appeal is dealt with in the Land Court.

Tourists wonder

– It is difficult for people to understand the current path as they travel, why the path to such a valuable and unique location is not treated.

Tourism operators do not recommend the path as it is neither official nor safe. For example, it is recommended that the City of Mikkeli travel pages be traveled to the Astuvansalmi water bus.
