Lahti launches playground renovation: now focusing on quality rather than quantity
Many playgrounds are getting lots of new equipment and other facilities.
The City of Lahti wants to invest in quality and reduce quantity in the playground. The city has decided to close some of its playgrounds to save money.
The renovation of the playgrounds will start in June, when the play area for older children in the Laune Family Park will be almost completely transformed. The large climbing nets and the accessible adventure trail will remain, but all other equipment will be replaced.
Three different swings, a merry-go-round and long benches will be built in the play area. The rest of the Family Park will be open for normal use throughout the summer.
In July, the Patomäenpuisto play area will be renovated, where a cable slide and a large carousel will be located.
The Tapaninpuisto play area in Tapanila will be completely renovated in the summer. There will be a street basket area, a game area with paint and artificial turf, a canopy and a slope.
In the early fall, the Katinpuisto play area in Ahtiala will be renovated. There will be climbing equipment in the area, a large carousel, an adventure path to the nearby forest and a multifunctional equipment for young children.
Seven play areas to be decommissioned
The play areas will also begin to be closed in May. The play areas to be removed are the Potilanpuisto play area, the Kivisilta play area, the Herrasmann yard play area, the Männistönrne play area 1, the Ainonpuisto play area, the Köllinranta play area and the Möysä beach play area.
Play equipment is removed from the areas, but they remain parks. If there are benches in the sites, they will be stored wherever possible and the meadow is sown in the areas.
