The City of Rovaniemi issued another penalty notice for accommodation
The city’s environment committee decided to impose a fine of €70 000 if the accommodation in the so-called “ten-block” does not end.
The City of Rovaniemi has again imposed a fine for illegal accommodation.
The city’s environment committee discussed the matter on Tuesday. Under the microscope was an apartment building in Korkalonkatu in the centre of Rovaniemi, where apartments are repeatedly rented out for temporary accommodation.
The block of flats, located in the so-called “ten blocks”, has 95 apartments, 77 of which, according to the city, are used for illegal accommodation.
The panel decided that it would oblige it to terminate the accommodation within three months with the threat of a fine. The fine applies to both the housing company, the homeowner and the tenant of the housing.
The basic batch of the penalty payment for each of them is EUR 70,000. There will be an additional € 30,000 for each month, which has continued to pay for the accommodation.
According to the city’s building supervision, the apartments are furnished, but they have no permanent residents at all. According to the city, the apartments organize professional accommodation activities, such as hotel services such as luggage storage and final cleaning.
Short-term rentals need to be curbed
Tuesday, the threat payment issue is the fifth decision of the City of Rovaniemi, which is trying to put the exploded short rent in the city.
For the first time, the city of Rovaniemi rely on a penalty payment on illegal accommodation in January. The penalty payment concerned a residential apartment building on Koskikatu, with at least 12 of which are used for accommodation.
