Ski resorts are already looking for seasonal workers for next winter

Northern Finland has attracted seasonal workers well in recent years. The poor working conditions, which have been publicised, have not yet been reflected in the number of applicants.

Ski resorts in Northern Finland are preparing to hire seasonal workers well in advance. In Levi and Ruka, for example, recruitment events were organised before mid-April in anticipation of the next winter season.

Satu Pesonen says that the sometimes poor working conditions in Lapland’s ski resorts, which have become public during the winter, have so far not been reflected in the number of applications for seasonal workers.

– I have not heard myself that applicants have specifically asked about working conditions, Pesonen says.

Earlier, Yle reported that, for example, restraints, hiring and poor condition of available vehicles are typical of the service trade union in the service trade union.

Also, accommodation is one of the durable topics when contacting seasonal workers to the union.

They want to rehire good employees

According to Satu Pesonen, some seasonal workers will continue in Levi for several years.

\”Of course, we strive to keep good employees for longer payrolls,\” Pesonen says.

Kirsi Manninen, Sales Manager at Rukapalvelu, says that the company she represents alone hires dozens of seasonal workers for the winter season.

– Especially the Christmas season is lively, so it is good to map workers already, says Manninen.

Both Satu Pesonen and Kirsi Manninen say that in recent years, seasonal workers have been quite well received by ski resorts in Northern Finland. For example, recruitment companies have helped in procurement.

-Northern Finland now has attractive power, says Satu Pesonen.

– The work is not too binding and I have enjoyed nature and winter. People around have been nice, so I’ve enjoyed it really well. If I don’t find anything else, I’ll get here next winter, Sini Aho says.
