Piera Eira feat. MÁIJÁ won in song and OSCAAL in yo-yo at the biggest music show for the Sami people

Here are the star artists of the Sámi music show

The winners of the Sámi Grand Prix, a traditional singing and yo-yo competition, are chosen by votes from the judges and the public.

For the first time in Finland, you can vote in the Sámi Grand Prix music competition. You can vote for your favourite in the yiku and song contest. You have one vote in each category. To vote, you will need your Yle ID.

The competition in Norway will see 12 artists take to the stage, competing in two categories: traditional yo-yo and modern music. The winners will be chosen not only by the judges’ votes but also by the public vote.

Song finalists:

Hildá Länsman – “Duodjemagiija”

Hildá Länsman is originally from Utsjö.

AILO – “Vijmak”

AILO aka Ailo Thomassen is an artist and student. He is originally from Tiitisvuono in Norway and currently lives in Trondheim.

Elin

Piera Eira is an artist, reindeer herder and tourist entrepreneur from the village of Maas in northern Norway.

Piera Eira started performing Joiku as early as 16-17. In his competition, * dálkkiid čađa * he wants to modernize his expression by combining yoiku and music. Traditional yelling changes in a modern style in which he is aiming for a wider audience. The song was born during the snowstorm in the fell and symbolized struggles in life storms.

– I have been yelling since I learned to talk!

Jovnna Levi – “Jovnna fra Tana”

Jovnna Levi, who lives in Trondheim, comes from Teno municipality in northern Norway.

– A rapper is an art for me that creates poetry from words.

Sara Ajnnak – “Biäggålmáj”

Artist and lyricist Sara Ajnnak is based in Gargnäs, Västerbotten, Sweden.

– As the wind can blow gently or hard, life can be unpredictable. I want to convey hope, light and warmth because we need them. A glimpse into the dark.

OSCAAL – “Sávrrimus”

OSCAAL aka Niels Ovllá Oskal Dunfjell lives in Kautokeino. He is the editor-in-chief of the Sámi language magazine Š.
