According to the researcher, the salmon situation in the Tenojoki River is worrying.

The poor state of the Tenojoki salmon stocks prevents salmon fishing this coming summer. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the situation is worrying.

The Finnish and Norwegian authorities have decided not to open salmon fishing next summer in the Tenojoki River. The solution is due to the exceptionally low level of salmon stocks in 2024 in the Tenojoki River.

– Unfortunately, last summer was very bad. The drop was quite high in one year, he says.

Forecasts for 2025 are also gloomy. In particular, the small amount of small salmon of one -year -old year of sea suggests that larger salmon rises to the rivers only. The situation has also deteriorated in the Utsjoki watercourse, which previously distinguished as a better salmon.

In accordance with the fishing rule, salmon fishing opportunities are determined by the salmon of the Teno tributary positions. As all other salmon populations except the Utsjoki have been assessed to the weakest space class, the Finnish and Norwegian authorities considered that there would be no prerequisites for salmon fishing this summer.

All in all, the situation is not only worrying but also unfortunate.

\”Now there are no opportunities other than refrain from salmon fishing and focus on other fishing,\” he says.

The only salmon that Teno is permission to ask for a targeted way next summer is the hunger salmon

At the same time, the River Tenojoki is expected to rise strongly. The chicks born from the great positions of 2023 are now returning to rivers, which will cause the targeted fishing fishing of the hump salmon to facilitate projects approved by the Lapland ELY Center.

Restricting the rise of the hunger salmon side to the Finnish side depends largely on Norwegian measures. Norway is planning a dam on the lower run of Teno to prevent humpback salmon rise.

However, on the Finnish side, it is desired to ensure that the pots have no adverse effects on the flow of salmon and other hiking fish. The Natural Resources Center and the Norwegian research institutes are currently investigating the potential effects of the dam on the seas of the smolts, or salmon chicks.

Finland was trying to negotiate with wider humpback drilling with freedom, but the countries did not reach a consensus.

Fishing other fish species will continue in accordance with the former rules. Travelers are provided with permission to catch other fish with lightweight fly fishing utensils.
