Lahti parishes do not organize free bus transportation from the city center to cemeteries on Christmas Eve

You can bring memorial candles to the cemeteries of the Lahti Parish Association at Christmas, but you have to arrange the ride yourself.

There have been clearly fewer passengers than expected, and relatives mostly visit cemeteries in private cars

This Christmas, you cannot take a free bus ride from the center of Lahti to the parish cemeteries.

The parish association is now taking a gap year in organizing free rides.

The reason is the small number of passengers on the buses. According to the drivers’ accounting, several shifts have been driven without any passengers, and in other shifts there may have been only a few passengers.

Relatives travel to cemeteries in private cars to remember their loved ones, and free buses have not succeeded in reducing traffic emissions.

However, the association of parishes is reminded that after a year the situation will be reconsidered.

For example, last year, transportation was arranged from the Marolankatu tourist stop with one bus to the Läntinen and Mustankallio cemeteries and another bus to the Levo cemetery.
