Broadcasting Campus in Pasila, Helsinki, March 11, 2025.
Yle will have to change its ways of working because of the savings required by a parliamentary working group. The broadcaster will have to save a total of €66 million by 2027.

The savings on YLE will change its programming. Some programmes will cease.

As a result of YLE’s change negotiations, the number of programmes will be reduced, the organisation will be restructured and management will be streamlined.

– Despite the cost savings, we will ensure that we can continue to produce diverse and high-quality content for a wide range of Finns and fulfil our important mission, Merja Ylä-Anttila continues.

Savings on the general basis change its program offerings. Some programs cease.
Yle’s CEO Merja Ylä-Anttila announced the upcoming changes at Yle’s premises in Pasila on Wednesday.

Changing programme offer

Funding cuts and staff reductions will have a concrete impact on the services and content provided by YLE.

The number of program titles will decrease and some of the programs will be published in the future fewer sections.

For example, a Friday’s live broadcast of the * Half seven * program will be replaced by a revamped broadcast of the best of the week after the spring.

Changes in the software will gradually take effect this year.

Changing the way regions operate

Changes also include the reform of local news activities. Decreasing resources will be renewed regional radio activities.

However, no radio channel will be silent and the provincial presence on the radio is safeguarded.

The number of radio programs is also reduced.

-We have sought to continue to take care of the most essential content and bring the program spectrum well, says Merja Ylä-Anttila, CEO.

Radio in Finland and Yle Arena * Hockey round * will be stopped in this SM League.

The decline also hits the recording of domestic music, for example, separate studio recruits are no longer.

* Radio Sami Yaffa* will not hear new episodes in Yle Radio in Finland.

Merja Ylä-Anttila states about program changes that she understands that every program is particularly important and dear to someone.

– I am aware that there will be disappointments when my own entrust program does not continue or change its shape, it is quite understandable.

-But surely there will be good content for everyone in the future, Ylä-Anttila continues.

High austerity pressures on the YLE

YLE’s migration negotiations ended in January.

In total, Parliament’s cuts will require savings of approximately EUR 66 million by 2027.

Initially, the company is applying for savings of approximately EUR 50 million for 2025-2026.

-Everybody can say that now about EUR 40 million is up, says Merja Ylä-Anttila, CEO.
