The first film in a German language premieres – locals praise Jessica Grabowsky’s performance
The Chosen is the world’s first feature-length drama film entirely in English and will premiere at the end of March.
Set in 1930s Tornio Valley, *Valitut* is a film about the revivalist Corps and the people who were driven to the brink of destruction by a mass rapture.
Meänkieli is one of Sweden’s five official minority languages and is spoken in the Tornio Valley near the Finnish border. Meänkieli is very similar to the Finnish dialect of Hemerpohölais.
– It was time to make a film in the vernacular, and specifically about the Korpela people. It feels absolutely right that this story was made in the Romany language. That’s basically what it had to be and now it feels very good that it has been done, says Blåhed.
The film is based on the novel by Bengt Pohjasen
Pohjanen is a three -language writer from Tornio Valley who writes in Finnish, Swedish and in Meän language.
When the village community is convinced of the vision of Teodor and this takes on the position of the leader of the shop, Rakel has to choose his side.
What sacrifices Rakel is ready to make for her family, and how to avoid fatal consequences when power is finally blurred by Teodor’s mind.
Meänmaa or Väylänvarsi
– Good, because it tells us about the Tornio Valley, from that perspective of sectarianism. This is a historical thing. The female leader is very good. He has all the contradictions we have and is here in the Tornio Valley, says Alatalo.
– The movie was very impressive. It was nicely photographed and the main performers and Actors were very convincing in their roles, says Välimaa.
One thing in the film shattered the ear of the middle and was the use of the word Meänmaa.
– It’s a recycled word and it hasn’t been in use at that time. Although it thus introduces that area and, in a way, a little modern connection is brought. Yes, it almost feels like almost distorting history, if it is terribly presented by the modern identity of Meänmaa. It hurt every time every time.
However, they both thought that making a movie was a kind of cultural act for Meän language.
– It is important to bring up our language and this area. However, it was an impressive movie and well done, so in that sense it is highly highlighted, says Välimaa.
The * selected * selected * selected * selected by the Rotterdam Film Festival series will premiere in Finland on March 21.
