Lahti Energia made a profit of almost 20 million – three million in dividends to the owner

The picture shows Lahti Energia's Kymijärvi power plant in the winter landscape.
Last year, a new electric boiler for district heat production was completed at the Kymijärvi power plant site.

The electric boiler in Kymijärvi proved to be an excellent investment. This year, the company also invested in an electric boiler at Teivaanmäki.

Lahti Energia improved its results last year. The result for the Lahti Energia Group as a whole rose to EUR 19.9 million. This is almost seven million euros more than in the previous year.

Last year, the company did not need to take out any additional loans. There are some EUR 347 million of old loans outstanding.

Lahti Energia’s good result is partly due to the fact that the electricity exchange price was high in the first half of last year and electricity consumption was high due to the cold weather.

Demand for electricity is expected to continue to grow, which can be bad news for the consumer.

Electric boilers reduce district heating production costs

Next year, Lahti Energia plans to invest in another electric boiler. The company is planning to build a new power boiler in the Teivaanmäki power plant area.

Towards the end of last year, Lahti Energia introduced a 60 megawatt power boiler in the Kymijärvi power plant area. The new electric boiler becomes the same size. The company also invests in a district heating battery, which is already under construction.

According to CEO Jouni Haikarainen, the electric boiler has proven to be an excellent investment. Thanks to the investment, the company has succeeded in lowering district heat production costs.

– Electric boilers help us take advantage of the strong variation of the electricity price.

3 million dividend for the City of Lahti

According to CEO Haikarainen, Lahti Energia pays its owner to the city of Lahti last year’s dividend of EUR 3 million. The dividend level is to be raised in the coming years from five to seven million euros, which the owner expects.

– Our ability to pay dividends depends on the development of the electricity market. If the average electricity price is high, we will be able to pay a reasonable dividend without an additional loan, says Haikarainen.
