Lahti gets its first accessible swimming beach this summer
The renovation will affect the use of Möysä beach and traffic arrangements. Work will start in April.
This summer, Lahti will have a barrier-free swimming beach, with the construction of an accessible ramp dock at Möysä beach.
In addition, a new barrier-free access road will be built from the parking area to the maintenance building and the beach. Work is expected to start in early April.
The accessibility upgrades are part of a larger renovation of the area. During the spring and early summer, improvements will also be made to the park areas and the car park, where two accessible parking spaces will be added. The beach will also get a new volleyball court and a local sports area.
A new stormwater filtering system will be built in the corner of the park. So far, stormwater has gone straight to Joutjärvi along stormwater lines.
Should be ready by the end of June
The beach improvement work restricts the use of the beach as the stormwater system requires a lot of excavation work. In addition, concrete elements for the quay are raised near the water line.
– The beach will be closed temporarily, as is the park corridor that comes from Ahtialantie and goes along the shoreline towards Möysä School. We hope that city dwellers pay attention to road signs and restrictions at work, Silvenius says.
The city has requested offers for Möysä Beach contract by early March.
The work is done in two stages. For the beach area and the pier, we should be ready by the beginning of June. The rest of the park work is expected to be completed by the end of June.
