The merger of Harju and Tiirismaa primary schools was sealed – indoor air problems prompted a quick solution

Harju school in Lahti
The Harju school has been suffering from indoor air problems.

The Lahti Board of Education decided unanimously at its meeting to merge the schools. The decision is aimed at ensuring a healthy and safe school environment for children.

The Harju primary school moves to the Paavola campus and merges with the Tiirismaa secondary school. The new primary school will start working in the new premises on 1 August 2023.

The decision has raised concerns among parents about the school routes and the fast timetable.

The Education Committee therefore calls, among other things, for the promotion of road safety in the city centre through cooperation with the authorities.

According to the board of education, a children’s traffic safety plan should also be drawn up in the central area and resources should be allocated to practicing a safe trip to school.

The operating conditions of English teaching are not changing from the current ones.
