Pirkko Saisio has two prizes weekly-won the Runeberg Prize by writing the monkey controller Josif Stalin
Author Pirkko Saisio received the Runeberg Prize worth € 20,000 with his work Suliko. The novel dives into the paranoia head of the terrible controller Josif Stalin.
The award -winning hell is confused.
– Of course, this seems terribly flattering, but it also causes some contradictory feelings. Such that this is a little too much now.
* Suliko* was selected as the winner of ten works. The Runeberg Prize is aimed at side by side with novels, essays and poetry.
The jury did not spare the praise as he justified his choice:
*“At the same time, the author manages to describe both the extreme evil and vulnerability of the human soul in a skilful approach, centrally and brightly. Masterpiece. ”*
“We’re traveling toward dictatorships”
The bottom is the facts about Stalin’s life, but fiction describes the novel how an idealistic character becomes a cruel ruler.
According to Saisio, the writing process was not heavy as he does not write about Stalin’s atrocities. On the contrary, the dreaded ruler also reveals sensitive aspects.
In his novel, Saisio describes how the visionary, which begins with good purposes, leads to a disaster.
– Often dictators want to customize the world to look. They refuse to see reality around them.
Although * Suliko * tells about a historical character, Saisio got the idea for the book about the present.
– We are moving towards dictatorships. We get up from the crowd by voting such people. We have already seen everywhere in how experts are invalidated and the civil servants are replaced.
Above all, Saisio wants to look at societies where dictatorship leadership is possible. That’s why the novel is very timely.
Saisio also sees many worrying signs in Finland.
– I have been actively following 60 years of politics. For the first time, I have the feeling that now is the government that I cannot trust in a good will.
“I write when should be elsewhere”
The Guard Award is awarded for life work.
Saisio’s first novel * Life * will suitably pass this year. Since then, dozens of novels, some in pseudonym. In addition, Saisio is known for his play script, guides and actresses.
Saisio himself describes his literary style as mixed.
– My principle is that if something is praised, I will go right in a different direction. I don’t want to repeat myself, but look for something new.
Access to the series can even increase opportunities for the Nobel Prize for Literature, as many winners are included in the prestigious publication series. Thanks to Saisio’s extensive life, Nobel would not be an impossible idea.
Saisio himself does not put much emphasis on career thinking.
– The career is one that is behind. It cannot be planned.
Saisio’s writing process also escapes systematicity. He is not the writers who sit down at a clean desk in the mornings.
– Mostly I write a little like myself secretly. Often text is created when you should already be somewhere else or do something else. I get up the best of my way when I think \”if I write a little in the meantime\”.
