The deteriorating financial situation of the National Archives and digitalisation are reflected in the number of staff and the number of buildings.

The change negotiations at the National Archives concerned 29 employees. Eight of them opted for severance pay and 12 were dismissed.

In addition, nine people will move within the organisation to another job, to a new employer or to retirement.

The reasons for the dismissals were the reorganisation of tasks, the reduction of specific tasks, the streamlining of administrative guidance and information request services and the reduction of customer service.

The National Archives said in October that the reason for the change negotiations concerning the entire staff is the weakened financial situation of the agency. In addition, digital services have become its primary form of service.

In the press release sent by the archives on Friday, it is stated that the cost savings could not be implemented without personnel reductions.

It is also planned to reduce the number of properties in the coming years. Currently, the National Archives has a total of nine locations across the country.
