Hollywood star Glenn Close experienced magical moments in a cabin without electricity in Finland, and now she wants to go back

Hollywood star Glenn Close slept with her dog on the sets of Kesäkirja movie in the Kotka archipelago.

The Hollywood star is supposed to be filming in Los Angeles, but they have been stopped due to wildfires. Close plays a lawyer in the ongoing courtroom drama series *All’s Fair*.

– Because of the situation, I am at home, which is wonderful, because my daughter is also here, who is expecting her first child. The baby should be born within a month. It’s a great gift to be here, Close says in Yle’s video interview.

Close is an atypical Hollywood star simply because she gives an interview from her home. In addition, the actor lives in Montana, far from the hard core of the American film and TV industry. – I was given three candles. I was in the cabin for the night with my dog. It was lovely.

Close remembers the experience down to every detail. He tells how a pair of swans moved around the filming location, and how great it was to catch the sunrise in the morning.

– Water liplated against the cliff and at night it became completely dark.

In the morning, the Hollywood star enjoyed life on the island.

– I went for a swim and dried myself on the cliff. I felt like a woman in nature, Close says.

Naked in nature

*Kesäkirja (The Summer Book)*, filmed in the archipelago, is a small and low-key film in which almost nothing happens. Marketing such a film to financiers is challenging.

– When we met for the first time in a video conference, it turned out that Close is a big fan of Tove Jansson. He said that he has never been to Finland, so let’s make a film, says McDowell in an interview with Yle.

Close, on the other hand, says that Tove Jansson became familiar to her as a little girl through Moomin stories. He read the *Summer Book* as an adult.

– I liked the Moomins much more than the *Winnie the Pooh* books. Moomin characters feed my imagination.

Based on Jansson’s *Kesäkirja* novel, the film tells about the friendship between a young girl and her grandmother during one summer in the archipelago. Close plays a rooting role in the film.

– I thought about my own mother when I was making a character. He grew up in the New England in the midst of forests and fields as I was small. I owned a movie for him.

Grandma also influenced Closen’s role.

– He had a special way to move.

Close surprises in the movie. He walks through one scene naked. Otto has been described elegantly behind the forest growth. Close walks in nature with a walking stick.

– Nudity was my idea. I thought a grandmother would have worked on the island. Walked naked around.

– Emily is one of the most imaginative children I’ve worked with. I could have played with him for hours. Sometimes Emily got bored and yawned between takes. She’s just a little girl, Close says.

For Emily Matthews, the first meeting with the Hollywood star went smoothly.

– I was like, who is he? I didn’t think, wow, I’m with a movie star. We had a lot of fun together. We collected rocks and found treasures. We were friends, says Matthews.
