The plan for the repair of the villa built in 1877 has been completed. The building has been closed for more than ten years due to poor condition.
The renovation of Aino Ackté’s villa, completed in 1877, will begin next year. The historically significant building has been empty for more than ten years, and it has fallen into bad disrepair.
It is a major renovation of the building, which includes the renewal of both water pipes and electricity, as well as a lot of restoration and conservation of the interior.
– First of all, we will definitely restore the water ceiling, the upper, intermediate and lower floors in the interior, as well as damaged wallpaper and interior surfaces, says Polvinen.
If the urban environment board approves the plan at the beginning of the year, the repair could start indoors as early as April. According to Polvinen, the most challenging repair items are microbial damage in the interior and the vertical log structure of the exterior wall, which is very exceptional.
The villa is repaired for summer use only
In November, the city set aside 2.5 million euros for repairs in the construction program. However, the costs may be exceeded because the estimate of the amount needed for the repair has been made based on the construction costs of two years ago.
In connection with the planning, it has also been determined what kind of use the villa that served as a gathering space could be in the future.
– The kitchen will serve cafe and catering operations as well as small-scale parties. Meeting space for 50 people is possible, says Polvinen.
The repair will likely be completed by the end of autumn 2024, estimates Polvinen. After that, the villa is only available during the warm season, May-October.
The villa has been closed to use since 2011 due to poor condition.
