Music festivals such as Headland in July 2022 have also been organized in the Niemi harbor area.

The removal of industry from the harbor offers an opportunity to implement the long-awaited coastal route.

In Lahti, a new official boat pier is being built in Nieme harbor for the use of the police and the Päijät-Häme rescue service.

The pier will be built at the ice floes container in the port, in a slightly different place from the current official boat pier.

The plan is to build a new official boat pier next fall or the following winter at the latest. It cannot be done during the boating season.

The city is planning a renovation project of a couple of million euros for the port of Niemen for several years.

After the official boat jetty, the fish station jetty will be renovated. Piers used by pleasure boaters will not be renovated.

The number of boat berths in Niemi remains unchanged. The harbor has approximately 540 berths for motor and sailing boats and approximately 70 berths for rowing boats.

A unified shore route Finally to the shore of Lake Vesijärvi

A unified beach route from Mukkula to Jalkaranta, which has been dreamed of for years in Lahti, can become a reality when Polttimo moves out of the Nieme area.

The plans are gradually being specified. A pedestrian and bicycle path can be built on the shore at Polttimo, and expensive embankments, bridges or artificial islands that were previously considered are not needed at the industrial area.

It is planned to implement the coastal route to the port of Niemen even before the Polttimo and UPM areas are vacated.

The city environment committee will discuss the master plan of Nieme harbor on Wednesday, November 23.
