This is the second ATM robbery in a month using a land vehicle.
The robbers used a backhoe to pull an ATM off a wall in the Kärkölkä Municipal Centre, Järvelkä.
The robbery took place at around three o’clock on Friday night. Several calls were made to the emergency services about the incident.
According to witnesses interviewed by the police, there was a loud noise and more than one perpetrator.
From the scene, the bucket loader left for the train station.
Häme police is asking for eyewitness observations of the incident from the Kärkölä city center area. Observations are also requested on possible vehicle traffic on Koukuntie after three in the morning.
The bucket loader had been stolen locally and has already been returned to its owner. The ATM that was ripped off is still missing.
– It is likely that the ATM has been lifted, for example, onto a trailer and moved forward, Vornanen estimates.
In October, a similar robbery took place in Mäntsälä. There, the Bank ATM was torn apart with a stolen wheel loader and taken aboard.
There were two perpetrators and the incident was recorded on a surveillance camera. The time of the robbery was also at three in the morning. The bandits returned the wheel loader close to where it was hijacked.
– The cases are undeniably similar, Vornanen states.
