Eight L-level students’ reactions to the results were captured on video – this autumn, three students achieved the same result

In December, around 4 300 new students will receive their white caps. That’s about 100 more than a year ago.

It’s that time of year again when the autumn graduates find out the results of their exams.

It is an emotional day for many high school students, not least for the three eight L’s in Finland.

– It’s a really good feeling. I’m really happy,” says the freshly graduated student.

He says that, among other things, his inquisitive nature and good memory have carried him far in his career, but the key to success has also been found in a suitable work pace and sufficient rest.

Milla Linnervuo.
Milla Linnervuo, a recent autumn graduate, is currently working in a pharmacy. In the future, she plans to study engineering physics.

Linnervuo wrote a total of nine subjects, which he divided into three writing sessions. The first matriculation exams were last fall.

For those who dream of eight boards, Linnervuo advises that you should start working from the beginning of high school. In this case, it is no longer necessary to learn a new subject for graduation essays, but repetition is enough.

– I have come a long way by listening in class.

Linnervuo currently works in a pharmacy. In the future, dreams of studying technical physics will come true.

– My dream would be to work at Cern in Switzerland at the physics department. Politics has also always interested me a lot, says Linnervuo.

“Every mark is deserved”

– I have an incredible feeling, I am very satisfied. Based on the preliminary results, English would not have been difficult, so it was a surprise, he says.

Kujanpää, who is applying to study medicine at the University of Helsinki, says that he chose the subjects to write with the upcoming entrance exams in mind. Laudatur clicked on mathematics, chemistry and biology, among others.

Fall graduate student Heikki Kujanpää.
Heikki Kujanpää, who is currently working in a kindergarten, says he has been working hard to prepare for the matriculation exams.

Higher education institutions now emphasize the results of matriculation essays in their student selections more than in previous decades.

Kujanpää says that he has heard from many of his acquaintances how higher stakes increase the stress of many matriculation students.

According to Kujanpää, if your high school diploma is not full of blanks, you shouldn’t be discouraged.

– Yes, every grade in ylppäri is earned, when hard work has been done for it. If you get an M, it’s not poorly written, it’s a really great performance.

Requires a good head and hard work

Now on the third time of writing, Korkeamäki wrote one subject that went to the student board with good marks.

– I was expecting this result. The feeling is great.

Before Korkeamäki checked the results, messages from friends had already arrived on the phone. They had seen that three high school students had written eight laudaturs.

– The friends said that one of them is from Lahti, it must have been you, Heli Korkeamäki says with a laugh.

A young woman with glasses waves as a sign of victory. There is a bouquet of roses in the hand. The woman is wearing a green college shirt.
Heli Korkeamäki, from Lahti, works at the checkout counter of Nastola ABC and went to look at the results of the matriculation exams during her lunch break.

Korkeamäki says he has a perfectionist character who wants to perform well. The motivation was increased by a little competition with a good friend who was in the same class during the matriculation exams last spring.

– The mutual sparring worked. When the other one pulled really well, I had to do it myself, Korkeamäki laughs.

During the corona pandemic, Korkeamäki was in distance education in the spring of the first grade of high school and part of the second grade.

– It was school life back then, but after that, all remote things seem fundamentally repulsive. Hopefully that’s over and done with.

Now eight L’s students have their sights set on Aalto University’s bioinformatics education line. Before that, the plans are to go to work abroad in the spring.
