The classical musical fills the stands at the Joensuu City Theatre. Three actors take turns in the role of Eliza Doolittle.
The story of Eliza Doolittle, who sells flowers on the streets, and from whom upper-class men decide to school the countess, appeals to the audience at the Joensuu City Theatre.
The classic musical My Fair Lady runs to almost full audiences, even though the story has been seen on the big screen already 70 years ago, and has been told countless times on the stages of Finnish theaters over the decades.
The Broadway musical is a big effort for the Joensuu City Theater. Three alternating actors are needed for the main role, and the entire large stage is harnessed for a grand musical, including orchestras and dancers.
\\- What if we have full stands. Let’s just let it go.
In the autumn season, My Fair Lady will be performed 39 times, with more than 5,400 spectators and reservations already, which is 65 percent of the capacity of the big stage.
For Suvi-Maaria Virra, the role of Eliza is a dream come true and she guessed that the play will be successful.
\\- For me, this is a dream role that I already thought would pass me by in my career, but I still managed to do this. It would be wonderful to move around and be captured by the role, but at the same time we are already rehearsing for everything to come, Virta laughs.
The performances of My Fair Lady will continue in the spring season.
