More sporting events are being sought in Finland, and not just for elite sport – a number of Finnish cities are stepping up their cooperation

The cooperation between Lahti, Helsinki, Tampere, Turku and Jyväskylä builds on Finland’s and the cities’ own strengths. The cities would prefer to have several medium-sized events rather than a large-scale competition that is organised less frequently.

Five Finnish cities are stepping up their cooperation to raise the profile of Finland in the hosting of sporting events.

In addition to Lahti, which is coordinating the project, Helsinki, Tampere, Turku and Jyväskylä are also involved. The Sport Event Management Finland project is managed by the tourism company Lahti Region Oy.

The project has received funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture since 2019. The aim is to highlight Tampere’s expertise in international ice hockey competitions or Lahti’s experience in major skiing events, for example. The participating cities will present themselves on a dedicated English-language website.

It is also about communicating Finland’s image.

Finns set up an “Uber of flying” that costs €400 an hour – here’s what it’s all about

Businesses can book flights on the new aviation kyyt app. The Uber-like app will choose which company will fly the route.

The reduction in scheduled flights is creating new ways for companies to organise employee travel. A new Finnish startup is offering companies the alternative of booking flights on an aviation kyyt app.

An eight-seater Jonair aircraft from Sweden taxi to the Helsinki-Vantaa business terminal, and after passengers have boarded, the plane continues to Tartu, Estonia.

You can book a flight using a Lygg ride-sharing app like Uber. Based on the number of passengers and the length of the trip, the app will choose which airline will ultimately fly the route. The image of luxury associated with business flights is fast disappearing.

There are fifty companies offering flights, and the number of seats on the planes varies between 8-33. The first to start is the triangular route from Helsinki via Tallinn to Örebro.

Nearly 5.5 million foreign tourists visited Stockholm in 2019.

If Sweden’s country brand gets worse, it will be difficult to turn back, says Susanne Andersson, CEO of Visit Sweden.

In Stockholm, most of the violence in recent weeks has taken place kilometres away from the city centre and in areas frequented by tourists, but on 18 January there was an explosion outside a restaurant in the popular Södermalm district near the city centre. The explosion did not cause any injuries, but the restaurant building was damaged.

According to Andersson, the situation has not yet had an impact on the Swedish tourism industry.

– The problem is that if this situation continues for a long time, it will have an impact on Sweden’s country brand,” Andersson says, referring to the numerous recent acts of violence in Sweden.

Based on numerous country brand studies, it is characteristic of a country’s image that it changes very slowly. But.

Tourism industry is again betting on international visitors – tourists are still less likely to find Finland than before the pandemic

Raija Forsman, CEO of Lahti Region at the Travel Fair.
Raija Forsman, Managing Director of Lahti Region, has many acquaintances in the tourism industry. Forsman is delighted that Matkamessui is now a reality after a three-year break.

Foreign tourist arrivals to Finland are slowly recovering from the collapse caused by the pandemic.

He expects Europeans to be in the black by 2025.

– Non-European tourists will have to wait years to reach pre-pandemic levels.

Tourism in Häme needs international tourists

– There were really two reasons. The rise in costs and the fact that now you can also go abroad. It is a phenomenon throughout Finland.

According to Forsman, when Finns head abroad in the Lahti region, mutual investment is made in the return of foreign tourists.
