Storytel’s hit book is full of oddities – readers discovered that an AI has done the translation

Carissa Broadbent’s book has been a worldwide hit in the romantic fantasy genre.

The AI-assisted translation is sometimes difficult to understand, and the meaning of sentences has changed.

Readers have described the translation as “bumpy”. According to comments on social media, the word order seems to be against the Finnish language – as if the book had been translated word for word. The sentence structures are described as strange, and there are punctuation errors in the text.

Many have been confused by the fact that the book seems to be translated by an AI and there is no mention of the name of the translator, but there is no mention of AI either.

Listening to the translation as an audio book has not been as distracting as reading it as an e-book.

The translation has been a disappointment for many, as Broadbent’s book, published in 2022, has become a big hit in the genre of romantic fantasy.

Suspected Särestöniemi forgery revealed in the middle of an exhibition – it is common to select works based on a photograph

Suspected Särestöniemi forgery revealed in the middle of an exhibition – it is common to select works based on a photograph

A broader picture of Reidar Särestöniemi exhibition.
Reidar Särestöniemi’s exhibition is on display at the Didrichsen Art Museum in Helsinki.

Museum directors and curators tell us that it is normal to check the photograph of a work requested for an exhibition. Forgeries are in circulation and it is often difficult to establish authenticity.

The opening of the Didrichsen Art Museum’s highly recommended *Maailmanranta – Reidar Särestöniemi 100 years* exhibition revealed a nasty surprise. One of the works on display turned out to be a suspected forgery.

The museum director also explained that the painting was borrowed from a private individual and that the selection was made on the basis of a photograph. The discovery of the suspected forgery was also a shock for the owner of the work.

Several museums tell Yle that selecting a work for an exhibition on the basis of a photograph is not ideal, but often dictated by practice. All the experts speak in general terms.

Suddenly, proven and detecting the authenticity of a work of art may seem simple. In reality, it is very difficult and sometimes even impossible. Today, it is possible to conduct highly exported technical studies for a work of art. However, they are expensive, and museums often do not have the opportunity to invest in individual works coming to the exhibition.

A one-day actors’ strike will take place on Saturday 5 April.

The Actors’ Union has issued a strike warning. It concerns work covered by the Actors’ Theatre Collective Agreement in several theatres around Finland.

A one-day strike has been announced for Saturday 5 April 2025, covering the Helsinki City Theatre, Rauma Theatre, Oulu Theatre and Svenska Teatern. The strike will affect all actors working in these theatres, including visitors.

Negotiations on a collective agreement between the Actors’ Union and the Finnish Theatres Association, the employers’ side, broke down on Tuesday this week with no results. Negotiations have been going on since January. The previous collective agreement in the sector expired at the end of February.

Employer side: “The strike notices are regrettable”

The aim of the Actor Association is to increase wage increases in accordance with the general line. According to the union, the negotiations have mainly concerned the weakening requirements made by the employer.
