In Kouvola, you can spend the weekend admiring the playing light works. The works illuminate the street view and buildings.
The Lux Like Kouvola event, open to everyone and free of charge, features a total of eight different light works. The works are also interactive, meaning you can play with them. The works are always visible at dusk between 5 and 9 p.m.
– Working with young people was rewarding. The idea and theme here was to think about dreams or wishes for the future. Mostly things that make you feel good, says Mia Erlin.
– There are four groups of trees here, each with motion detectors. Each group of trees has its own sound world, and when you hug the tree, the lighting gets stronger and music plays. When all groups of trees are hugged at the same time, a fanfare can be heard, explains Esa Kotilainen.
Yrityspalvelutalo in Mansk you can explore several light artworks inside. Among other things, installation artist Robin Baumgartner’s work is on display, which consists of thousands of LED lights. The work playfully visualizes the concepts of quantum physics.
– There are quite a few works on display here, but these are great. I’ve been playing different games since I was a little boy and in the last six months I’ve done different light shows on the music side as an amateur, and here you can also get ideas on how to use lights, says Janne Lehtonen.
can be played at the Lux Like Kouvola light art festival and at the Pelien Vapaakaupunki event throughout November.
The works can be seen in Kouvola’s business service building in Manski, on the outer wall of Yhteiskoulu, in the city hall’s citizens’ square, in Kouvolatalo and in the area’s park.
The event is organized by the Poikilo museums, Southeastern Finland University of Applied Sciences, Art Promotion Center and the city of Kouvola.
