The City of Lahti examined the data: electric cars were left in parking spaces, even though they were not required to do so

In the foreground, asphalt, on which small parking squares with the letter P and a picture of a kickboard have been painted with white paint. In the background, a red iron fence and bushes and apartment buildings. On the side, there is a bus stop with the capital letter C on the sign.
One of the parking spaces for electric scooters is located on Vapaudenkatu, on the edge of Lahti’s market square.

The City of Lahti has painted its own parking spaces for electric scooters. According to location data, some users took advantage of them.

Painted parking squares for electric scooters for hire have proved useful in Lahti. In the summer of 2022, the City of Lahti painted five parking spaces in the asphalt for scooters.

The city has received data from scooter companies on where users have parked their scooters. Data on 10,000 parking spaces in July and October were examined.

– The box alone seems to have some effect on parking, even though there is no separate incentive,” says Polojärvi, assessing the result.

According to him, the city is trying to find more places for parking spaces.

– The cost of just painting is not terribly big. It is easy to add squares once the positions are defined.

The law does not oblige board owners to establish stations for them.

In the near future, the residents of Lahti will be asked about their experiences and opinions about the parking of electric scooters and their effects on traffic.
