For example, a support worker will take your child or young person outdoors or try new activities. The support person helps young people who are lonely, for example.

Päijät-Sote is looking for more volunteers to support boys who are lonely or in school, for example, in extracurricular activities outside the home.

At the moment there are more than 50 support persons, but especially men from Lahti, Hollola, Kärkölä and Orimattila are welcome to join the activities.

The support worker meets the child or young person 1-4 times a month outside the home and spends a few hours with the child, for example, outdoors, in a play park or at a museum.

Many children need a reliable and safe adult.

– The child may be lonely and have no friends or be bullied at school. The parents of some children are tired or sick, and there is not enough interest in thinking about the children’s hobbies. For example, in such situations, a support person can help the young person.

A social worker or counselor can suggest that the family try a support person. The activity is voluntary for the child.

Training for support staff

Päijät-Sote will organize an event in Lahti on Tuesday from 17:00 to 19:00 at Aleksanterinkatu 15, where you will be told more about the activities and will be able to meet the support staff.

The support person receives expense and mileage compensation for their activities.

*–* The support person must be a person of full age who has his own life in order. You get training and peer support for the operation, says Maija Liesegang.
