Two old library vans are to be replaced by one new vehicle over the next year.

The City of Lahti plans to give up its second library van. The city now has two library vans, one of which serves Nastola.

Both vehicles are at the end of their useful life after serving customers for more than 15 years, and a new library vehicle is being purchased for next year.

A proposal to the Welfare and Leisure Committee to dispose of the second old library van was approved at a meeting yesterday. The car is to be taken out of service when its maintenance costs become too high.

According to the presentation, giving up another vehicle is possible by rearranging routes. The purchase of one new library car costs around 800,000 euros.

According to him, library car services are reviewed every year based on the number of users and loans at different stops. Services are reduced in areas with the least demand.

However, Kuosa assures that the services of the library car will also be available in the future, as needed, at stops that are located far from the services of brick-and-mortar libraries. Especially children are important customers.

– Almost 20 schools and 26 kindergartens are covered by our services. The library car is for many children the first contact with the world of books, says Kousa.
