The zoning required for the change of use will be discussed by the Sysmä Municipal Council.

The municipality of Sysmä is trying to promote the use of the Virtaankoski area through zoning. It is planned to restore the Virtaankoski by dismantling the old hydroelectric dam and replacing it with a new structure from which migratory fish will be able to freely ascend to spawning grounds.

One of the ways to develop the area for tourism is to renovate the old power station and mill buildings for café and museum use. The land of the Virta estate would also be used for recreational purposes. However, the plans must first be adapted to the new use.

On Monday, the Sysmä municipal council will be asked to submit the plans.
