The duo, known for their huge hits, also guides newcomers to an artist career.
JVG celebrates his more than ten-year career with the opening track of his new album.
JVG’s success story has seemed like forever, but at some point the duo had to stop and say that they have become adults.
A place to look in the mirror
Dark thoughts and JVG usually don’t belong in the same sentence. However, Jare and VilleGalle say that such themes can be found on their seventh album. They rap about, among other things, that boys can cry too.
Deeper considerations than before started during the corona virus, as it prompted the duo to stop for the first time in ten years.
– It was good to look in the mirror and ask who the hell am I and what has been done here. When you’ve always gone from project to project, people have wondered what it feels like when things grow and you’re always moving towards something bigger, says VilleGalle.
In March, a documentary about JVG premiered and it was a therapy session for the two. They saw for themselves for the first time what kind of people they are behind the scenes. Being on tour endlessly had separated them from everyday life, and their mutual relationships were also put to the test.
– At some point, we had time to indulge in a gig. It has also been running out of time, Jare admits.
The corona break was a good place for growth. Both found golf as a hobby that balanced their artistic pursuits, and growing up took shape when Jare became a father.
– Somehow I was forced to calm down, and that kind of calm has remained, Jare reflects.
Young rappers are rolling
These are the performers of the most listened to Finnish songs on Spotify, i.e. young rappers. New artists appear on the list almost every week.
JVG is a real hero in this group.
– The gang was born in the 21st century, listened to our original songs and started making music because of that. In a way, it gives a bit of an old feeling, that it’s okay, we’ve been here for so long already, Jare laughs.
A new rap generation is emerging through Tiktok. When JVG made its income a good ten years ago, it was through Facebook and Youtube.
– It seems like every other guy is a rapper these days. You go to the studio, you make a demo, you play it and suddenly the audience takes it and you’re on stage. It’s amazing that anyone can become a star these days, says VilleGalle.
Godfathers of rap
JVG keeps up with Räpsken’s new trends through the record company PME Records. They were founding it in 2012 and are now partners.
The label’s artists include mostly up-and-coming rappers, whom VilleGalle mentors A
While JVG gives advice to newcomers, veterans are inspired by the enthusiasm of young people.
– One of the reasons for our long career is that we have been able to closely follow the careers of these newer ones, says VilleGalle.
– That’s the enthusiasm for novelty that we had ten years ago. When sometimes you know who jumps on the gig bus and you see their enthusiasm, you get the feeling that the joke here is that you can still do this. Sometimes you may not have been able to appreciate it, Jare reflects.
This year, the duo has also visited other artists’ songs exceptionally hard, together and separately. In the past, the band has been cautious about collaborations, but now they have also joined the songs of smaller artists. Being with JVG’s rappers is a lottery win for many newcomers.
– We have also received so much from others. Let’s put a good one around.
