Last year’s collection at the Nokia library was a success. However, the quality requirements are clear: no smells, no moisture, and no encyclopedias either.
At Nokia, books are recycled more thoroughly than usual. Last year’s popular Book Circuit collection is renewed. It enabled about 10,000 books to get a new life.
The new Virta library has the Finlandia Kirja company’s collection boxes until the end of the year. In exchange for a book bag packed according to the instructions, you can get a discount voucher, which entitles you to a discount on the company’s books.
Based on last year’s experience, approximately 40 percent of the books recycled at Nokia go to new sales, 20 percent to the distribution of a charity event, and the rest to raw material for cellulosic insulation.
It is common for, for example, large volumes of books from funeral homes to end up as mixed waste. Of course, energy is obtained from them, but the book only works as a carbon sink as long as it remains a book or new products.
