Loretta Lynn (1932–2022)

Loretta Lynn, born in 1932 in a modest family of miners, was a brave pioneer in the imagery of American country music, breaking stereotypes and not shying away from difficult themes in her songs. Topics included sex, cheating, divorce and birth control. Sometimes Lynn’s songs were also censored on the radio: their themes were too much for conservative parties.

Loretta Lynn was the first woman to be named entertainer of the year at two of country music’s major awards shows: first at the Country Music Association in 1972 and three years later at the Academy of Country Music. He entered the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988.

Loretta Lynn was also known for her image: she appeared from decade to decade in spectacular skirts full of embroidery and rhinestones.

Lynn toured extensively for five decades until 2017. The last album, which contained new material, came out last year.
