Rajakylä’s mural was created in collaboration with the residents and was inspired by the green trees of the residential area

A large-scale mural by Eloise Gillow, a visual artist who graduated from Rajakylä, was announced on Monday.

People are walking in the foreground and in the background is an apartment building with a large mural painted on the wall.
The completed work at Ruiskukkatie 3 was announced on Monday, but its completion has been closely monitored in Rajakylä throughout the summer. At the announcement event, the artist thanked many passers-by who encouraged him in his work.

The mural completed in Rajakylä is part of Oulu’s capital of culture project. The regional piece is located on the wall of a 9-story apartment building across from Rajakylä school on Ruiskukkatie.

In the work, a young girl is walking towards a forest where two paths branch off.

The location of the work was chosen based on the suggestions of the townspeople and it was realized during the summer in cooperation based on the ideas of the residents.

Gillow, who painted the piece, has also done similar murals in many other European countries.

– It is not closed cultural events, but it specifically means that culture, art and experiencing life together come into everyone’s everyday life, in residential areas, workplaces, schools and everywhere, says Rantala-Korhonen.
