The supply and use of accommodations through the accommodation service Airbnb is now growing the strongest in the city.
Kokkola’s tourism summer was brought to a decent result by the big summer events in the surrounding area.
Although visitor accommodation days in Kokkola in June–August were four percent less than the previous year, the euros used for accommodation still increased.
All in all, 47,000 accommodation days were recorded this season, when, for example, before the corona in 2019, there were 44,700.
Accommodation sales increased by up to 18 percent.
The supply of Airbnb accommodation is growing most strongly in Kokkola. Their occupancy rate is also higher than traditional accommodation establishments.
This year, up to a fifth of accommodation days in the city consist of Airbnb stays.
There are already 83 Airbnb accommodation providers in Kokkola. There are 10 registered accommodation establishments in the city.
This summer, 6,170 passengers visited Tankar’s Majakkasaari off Kokkola. The number is a couple of hundred visitors less than last summer.
In the last tourist season, Majakkasaari already reached its second consecutive visitor record.
On the other hand, travel by foreigners in Kokkola is still low. Most foreigners come to Kokkola from Sweden, Germany and Norway.
