If the weather does not change, the goal of the leather over-transfer obligation will be left.
Northerly winds and low water have weakened the autumn lamprey fish in Kemijokisu. About 50,000 individuals have been transferred over the Isohaara power plant so far, while the goal of the overtransfer obligation is to transfer 100,000 lampreys.
The largest numbers of lampreys are usually raised during autumn storms.
– Hopefully we will reach the transfer goal, it depends on the weather. The lamprey angler likes a southerly storm, then the water rises at the mouth of the river and sets the lampreys on the move. Mid-October is the tipping point, usually then the arrival of the lamprey fades.
So far, one lamprey fry day has been held at Keminmaa’s lamprey catchers’ fry stand above the Isohaara dam basin.
– There are plans for another fry day for this fall, if there are enough lampreys. The booth is filled with customers as soon as the lampreys are fried, says Rantamaula.
