The water company plans to increase the basic fees from January 1, 2023, but the usage fees will remain unchanged.

The water supply company Lahti Aqua will increase the basic water charges from the beginning of next year. On the other hand, there are no changes to the usage fees, unlike in many other water companies.

– Compared to other cities the size of Lahti, Lahti Aqua’s prices are on average 11 percent cheaper, says Lillman.

In practice, the basic payment for a detached house of around 200 square meters will increase by around 30 euros per year.

The reason for the price increase is, among other things, the increase in material costs. In addition, the company wants to keep the amount of the restructuring debt reasonable in the future as well, when water charges will have to be slightly increased.

– Many water networks in Lahti have been renovated already in the late 1990s. At that time, there were no big investments in water intakes and water treatment plants, so that money was wisely spent on the renovation of pipelines. We may have been a little ahead of our time here, says Lillman.
